The Met Gala 2023 red carpet was a night of glamour and fashion. The theme of the night was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” honoring the late Chanel designer who passed away in 2019.
The stars pulled out all the stops to pay tribute to the designer, Karl Lagerfeld. Chanel was one of the highlights of the night, with iconic archived looks worn by popstars Dua Lipa, and Blackpink's Jennie Kim.
Dua Lipa's Chanel 1992 Archive
Dua Lipa truly embodied Chanel on and off the red carpet during the 2023 Met Gala. Making her debut on the red carpet, she modeled a vintage Chanel gown that exuded royalty. The white gown featured a figure-hugging corset bodice and a full princess skirt with pockets, black tweed trim and lined in tassels. Most notably, she debuted a Tiffany diamond necklace never to be seen, featuring 119 carats in total worth over 10 million dollars in diamonds.

For this look, her makeup artist, Pat MacGrath and hair artist, Paul Hanlon, kept things simple and let the dress and necklace have their moment. Her eyes had shimmers of silver to match with her Tiffany diamond necklace and Chanel silver mules, and a pinky lip and blush combo to add natural touches to the delicate look. Her hair was kept natural with textured curls and droopy curtain bangs.
Most notably, her look is an archive from Chanel's 1992 Couture Collection worn by Claudia Schiffer. This look will always be remembered in fashion, then and now.

For the after party, she is seen in a chic biker look with lots of pearls and chains hanging down in disarray, black fingerless leather gloves covered entirely in pearls, a little Chanel belt bag with a pearl strap, Chanel CC tights, and finally, Chanel heels with pearl detailing at the heel. Although this look isn't archive Chanel, I couldn't not include this iconic look. This biker short and crop top moment is from Chanel's 2022 Spring/ Summer collection, but with some accessories, she brought back that 90's pearl aesthetic. This look is something that feels very Dua but still fits the Met Gala theme with ease. She has elevated biker shorts before and she does it again, this time adding pearl lined glasses and a dirty martini in hand.

Jennie's First Met Gala Debut
Jennie Kim also made an appearance on the red carpet wearing a Chanel mini dress. She wore a white and black dress with the classic white Chanel bow, tights, black high heels, black choker and black elbow high gloves to finish the look. The dress was simple and classic, paying homage to Karl Lagerfeld and her Korean culture. Personally, I love that she created a headband out of braided hair and finished it with a Chanel white bow on the side, just above her ear. Her makeup look was natural with touches of pink in her blush that carried up into her eyeshadow and a natural bitten pink lip.

She is the newest Chanel Global Ambassador and has been seen posing for their #CHANEL22 handbag and Fine Jewelry campaigns, so I am excited to see more Chanel looks and involvement from our favorite Korean popstar.
Her look is from Karl's Ready to Wear 1990 collection called "Look 164." The dress embodied Chanel's signature style with a touch of personalization that perfectly suited the theme. I loved to see Jennie bring this look back to life in her own style but still preserving his original design.
